Since 2004 (when I started medical school), I have occasionally received promotional/ product information, patient education materials, and nominal items such as pens, sticky note pads, etc. from various companies. I have partaken of food paid for by pharmaceutical companies: for example, sandwiches provided during placements in various primary care practices or weekly educational sessions in hospital training posts. I have also partaken of at least two evening meals provided during sponsored educational events.
