Archie owns shares in CMR Surgical Ltd, which provides a surgical robotics system (Versius) to hospitals, including NHS hospitals. Archie is not a surgeon and does not make decisions about what tools (such as surgical robots) or techniques are used in any surgeries. He does not work in an organisation that uses the Versius robot. These shares were purchased when Archie was employed by CMR Surgical; he no longer works with them. Archie has two medical device patents, but generates income from neither of them.
Archie is eligible to apply for a grant of up to £1000 a year from the Oxford University Clinical Academic Graduate School to cover research and personal development costs. He has an NHS employment contract, but within his role he has around 25% protected academic time paid at the same rate as his NHS clinical work. His salary for this academic time is paid by the National Institute for Health and Care Research via his NHS employer.
